Georges Bizet - Opera in four acts - Libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy!

With his CARMEN, Georges Bizet wrote a declaration of war on romantic opera: with her unbending desire for freedom, the title heroine embodies the counter image to the passive, suffering female figures who had previously dominated the opera stage. But CARMEN is anti-romantic in an even more comprehensive sense: Bizet's opera shows a world in which love as an interpersonal feeling no longer has a place and has long since been replaced by sex and violence. Carmen and the torero Escamillo are representatives of this society in which only the right of the strongest counts. A world in which Don José, with his bourgeois ideal of love, remains a stranger doomed to failure.

With this illusionless look at the desolation of human existence, Bizet stands in close proximity to the novels of Emile Zola - contrary to the clichéd image of many performances, Bizet's Spain is a place that shows the ugliness of poverty in bright light.

Info: Deutsche Oper Berlin

On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.

Smooth buying of tickets with friendly staff. Grandiose places and a wonderful bizarre performance (Salome)!
What I didn't know until then: On the day of the performance there must be a valid get2card. Not (only) on the day of purchase.
(I had a sample get2card for 3 months at the first attempt to buy the cards.)
