Greek food in Berlin

The Greek islands and the mainland are a popular holiday destination: the flight time is short, the sunny season is long, the beaches are fantastic and there are plenty of historical sights to see. The Greek hospitality and the variety of the mostly hearty and meaty cuisine let the holiday become an experience and so it is not surprising that Greek restaurants and taverns are extremely popular in Berlin. Despite a large number of restaurants in the city, these are usually very well frequented and many Berliners have a favorite Greek, which they visit regularly.  Often quiet Greek music plays in the background, the ambience is of course also Greek and with the hearty dishes and a glass of Retsina memories of the last holiday or dreams of the next trip come up.
The offer in the menus of the restaurants is extensive and Mediterranean. In principle, Greek cuisine is based on the geogrophic and culinary conditions of the country: A lot of sea and coast and therefore a lot of fish dishes; a large portion of mountains and therefore little livestock breeding in our sense, but you will find sheep, goat and rabbit on the menu. And of course plenty of vegetables, salads and herbs.
A typical Greek evening in a taverna or restaurant includes a large appetizer plate with tsatsiki, fishrogen and feta paste, eggplant, stuffed vine leaves, farmer's salad, olives, anchovies and squid salad.
The main courses consist of vegetables in tomato sauce and feta (okra pods or giant beans), biftiki and other meats, various pasta dishes and casseroles such as mousaka and pastitsio. Gyros and Souvlaki (meat skewer) are of course still the most popular!
For food, fresh white bread is always served.
The desserts are very sweet and mostly consist of pastries with honey, cinnamon, liquorice and sesame like baklava and loukoumades!
