Theatre in Berlin
In Berlin there are more theaters than opera houses - hard to believe, but true. Apart from the traditional state and municipal theatres, there are more than 400 freely producing theatre and dance groups in Berlin that present themselves in the so-called independent scene. Thus the performances of large plays take place in large and imposing houses, as is known from classical theatre history as playhouses, as well as in small off-theatres, cellar theatres, industrial buildings, loft's or old factory floors. Both in the famous theaters of the city such as the Schiller Theater, the Schauspielhaus, the Brecht Theater and Berliner Ensemble or the Volksbühne, as well as in the unusual locations of the independent scene, a special atmosphere develops during the performances, which constitute the cultural flair of Berlin!
Whether old bread or film factory, whether scene or children's theatre, whether classical or very modern, whether old-established or hip, whether political, comedic or tragic, whether revolutionary or improvised, whether genuine classic or Berlin muzzle - in the extensive repertoire you will find an extensive repertoire every day. In addition there are festivals, guest performances and open air performances.
For the old Italian custom of stagione (season) between Easter and summer as well as autumn and Christmas there is no room in a modern city like Berlin - at least in the freely financed theatres!
