Pizzeria in Berlin
Since the 18th century pizzas have been commercially baked and sold in southern Italy. In the countryside, the local baker took over the task of baking the pizzas for the local families at high temperatures in his wood-burning oven.
The two oldest pizzerias are located in Naples. In the pizzeria Brandi the first pizza Margherita was created. King Umberto wanted von Brand to make a pizza in the Italian national colours. In addition to tomatoes, Brandi also topped the pizza with mozzarella and basil. In honour of his wife he named it Margherita.
The oldest still existing pizzeria is located in the centre of Naples and bears the name Antica Pizzeria Port' Alba. The pizzeria was already at the beginning of the 18th century a hostel with restoration. The Port' Alba is still very popular today and is not missing in any travel guide. But the Neapolitan pizza development also gave rise to the Gastro branch Pizzeria, in which only pizzas are really served. A real Italian pizzeria doesn't open until the evening. Bad tongues claim that all pizzerias and restaurants that already have pizza on their menu at noon do this only for the tourists. For a real Italian, the pizza is an evening meal!
The first Italian guest workers who came to Germany in the 50s made the pizza their culinary development. The first pizzeria in Germany was opened in Würzburg in 1952. Besides spaghetti, pizza has established itself as the most popular Italian dish in Germany.
