Bars and pubs in Berlin
Do you know the fine difference between a bar and a pub ? The common denominator is that both drinks are served and there is only a small range of food, if any. The difference is originally in the type of drinks offered. In the pub there is - theoretically - beer and schnapps, in a bar cocktails, wine, sparkling wine. Today, the boundaries of the offer are largely blurred. Both in the bar you can order beer and in the pub you can get a wine or cocktail.
Occasionally, over the centuries, the sour taste of the term pub has been maintained. When we say pub today, we usually think of a corner pub, a barely scrubbed table, a bit gloomy, loud and maybe still a smoking pub! You may also think of the vending machines in the corner, table football, darts or billiards. And when we go on a pub tour, that means: a lot of alcohol...
The term bar, on the other hand, is associated with a more refined and dignified atmosphere, discreet lighting, piano music or chilly club music in the background, a well-groomed interior and guests who talk quietly.
This is served with colourful cocktails, exotic beers, trendy long drinks as well as sparkling wine, champagne or prosecco. You sit on bar stools
or at small tables, lounge furniture or extravagant creations - for example wooden platforms or pallet constructions.
However, you can spend just as nice hours in a pub and meet just as nice people as in a bar! Try it out!
