African food in Berlin
Africa is a large continent with an eventful history, a traditional cuisine and many influences from the colonial period. On the other hand, the Africans who emigrated and were abducted as slaves carried their dishes, methods of preparation and spices all over the world. The African cuisine is varied, very tasty and also healthy, because a lot of vegetables and little fat is used. In combination with exotic spices, wonderful, easily digestible and varied dishes are created.
However, African cuisine is still relatively little known in Germany. In Berlin, however, some african restaurantss - mainly in Berlin-Mitte and the trendy neighbourhoods - have established themselves in recent years. The interior is kept in the warm earth tones of the African continent, completed with authentic inlays and the typical wood and ethnic design. In the African Restarants you will find a cross-section of the cuisine of several African countries such as South Africa, Ethiopia, Ghana and Senegal.
Additional to the rich meat dishes (also zebra, crocodile or springbok) delicious stews from the oven, fresh and interestingly spiced vegetables (yams root, okra or teff) and typical African bread are served.
Vegetarians are guaranteed to find what they are looking for in African restaurants: numerous variations of potatoes, yams, black-eyed beans, okra, coconut milk; plantains, manjok and many other vegetables are on offer!
