Renaissance-Theater Berlin: The Amazing Family

One of the most famous families of the twentieth century is brought to life. The famous brothers Thomas and Heinrich stand on opposing political points of view and shape German-language literature at the highest level. Klaus and Erika, experimental, witty, active in acting and politics, allow no compromise in the complex family relationships. This microcosm, held together by Katia with self-confidence and unflagging energy, is forced by the violent upheavals of the twentieth century on an involuntary journey: Exile to America. There, the entire family becomes an institution of exiles, and the responsibility to take a stand becomes vital.

In an imaginary ensemble between conformity and emigration, extended by Gustaf Gründgens, Therese Giehse, Hans Otto and Pamela Wedekind, the boundaries between documentary and dramatic play dissolve: A play about love, strife, betrayal and cohesion. And as if in a mirror, our time also appears in its kaleidoscopic facets with surprising clarity.
