The International Uranium Film Festival takes place for the seventh time in Berlin!
From 09 to 14 October, the film festival, which is unique in the world, will bring more than 20 films from 12 countries and several filmmakers from the USA and Great Britain to Berlin. Three exhibitions, several lectures and a dance performance by the Japanese body poet Kazuma Glen Motomura round off the program at the Zeiss-Großplanetarium, the cinema at the Kulturbrauerei and the COOP Anti-War Kunstbar Café.
This year's film program combines the legacy of the nuclear tests on the Marshall Islands with the radiant legacy of the Manhattan nuclear program in the USA and the history of one of the world's oldest uranium mines in Portugal, which supplied the nuclear fuel for the first nuclear bombs in the USA and Great Britain.
Another focus of the 2018 festival is the protection of the Grand Canyon from radioactive contamination. "Uranium mining is again threatening this natural monument, which is unique in the world, because the Donald Trump government plans to overturn the existing moratorium", says festival director Norbert G. Suchanek.
