Detlev Glanert - A summer piece for music in two acts - Libretto by Hans-Ulrich!
The figure of the "strange woman from the sea" who tries in vain to find her place in human society has inspired the entire 19th century through writers, composers and visual artists.
Theodor Fontane was also preoccupied with this theme: The novella fragment "Oceane von Parceval", written in 1887, is only one of his attempts, in the form of the melusine, to grasp the mixture of feelings of threat and fascination that a male-dominated bourgeois society was confronted with in the face of the combination of femininity with archaic, erotically revealing naturalness.
For the Fontane year 2019, Detlev Glanert and Hans-Ulrich Treichel have now written an opera based on this fragment, thus continuing their successful collaboration begun with CALIGULA in 2006. For the premiere of OCEANE, one of the most successful contemporary opera directors returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The Canadian Robert Carsen has been staging productions at the world's major opera houses for over thirty years.

Info: Deutsche Oper Berlin
On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.
