Giacomo Puccini - Dramma lirico in four acts - Libretto after Abbé Prévost!
Puccini has always described MADAMA BUTTERFLY as his favourite and best work. In fact, it corresponds almost masterfully to his self-chosen maxim of the "music of small things". Finely chased musical details, an enchanting melody in the voice, unobtrusively inserted exotic elements and a sensitive mixture of timbres in the orchestra have not only made the work immortal to the audience, but have also made it a role model for many composers of the following generations - as well as the other operas of Puccini.
The production of the Deutsche Oper Berlin focuses on the tragedy of the young woman, who remains faithful to her love, even if she seems hopeless to everyone else, even though she seems hopeless to everyone else. The magic of this work unfolds particularly impressively in the atmospheric, never folkloric stage setting.

On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.
