Giuseppe Verdi - Melodramma in three acts - Libretto by Antonio Somma!

UN BALLO IN MASCHERA is considered a prime example of Verdi's new aesthetic of verità, which develops a broad spectrum of musical-dramatic facets. The tragic love affair between King Gustaf III and Amelia, which resembles a doom, is contrasted with the radiant atmosphere of the court, above all represented by the page-boy Oskar.

Dramatic climax is the finale of the 3rd act: The conspirators, Count René Anckarström, also meet at the masked ball of the court society, the two plot strands penetrating each other. The catastrophe develops against the background of elegant dance music. The last encounter between Amelia and Gustaf is accompanied by a stylized minuet, interrupted only once by an anxious music, when Amelia fears for the life of her lover.

The feelings of the two protagonists, which alternate between desire and the torment of conscience, reflect the diversity of the musical composition: musical contrasts, sharp punctuations and syncopations express the intensity of the feelings. The drama takes place mainly in the music.

Info: Deutsche Oper Berlin

On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.

Smooth buying of tickets with friendly staff. Grandiose places and a wonderful bizarre performance (Salome)!
What I didn't know until then: On the day of the performance there must be a valid get2card. Not (only) on the day of purchase.
(I had a sample get2card for 3 months at the first attempt to buy the cards.)
