Melodramma by Pietro Mascagni - Libretto Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti & Guido Menasci!

It can be reassuring to know that the tears shed on stage are false, that the feelings are only played and the pain is not really suffered by the performers. But reassurance is not the thing of the young Italian composers on the threshold of the 20th century, on the contrary: they wanted to shake up the audience, draw them into the whirlpool of emotions, take them by surprise with the comic and tragic twists that take their stories copied from life.

In the literary movement of 'verismo' [derived from 'il vero' - the truth] they found their concern preformed, and it is only logical that Pietro Mascagni chose a novel by its main representative Giovanni Verga as the model for his first work. Cavalleria rusticana [the German title is: Sicilian peasant honor] had already proved its stage suitability in a dramatization that was also shown in Mascagni's hometown of Livorno. In 1880 the story was published in the collection Vita dei campi, which actually means Living in the countryside, but due to the origin of the author in the German translation it is mostly called Sicilian village stories.

Info: Deutsche Oper Berlin

On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.

Smooth buying of tickets with friendly staff. Grandiose places and a wonderful bizarre performance (Salome)!
What I didn't know until then: On the day of the performance there must be a valid get2card. Not (only) on the day of purchase.
(I had a sample get2card for 3 months at the first attempt to buy the cards.)
