Giacomo Puccini - Dramma lirico in three acts - Libretto by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni!
Tormenting doubts and paralyzing depressions accompanied the development process of Giacomo Puccini's last opera TURANDOT. Out of the initially diffuse fear of not being able to complete his opera, Puccini urged himself and his librettist duo Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni to hurry. It was to be a new beginning, born from a compositional crisis into which the musical developments, indeed upheavals of the present, had thrown him, a liberation blow, a departure to new shores.
Already the substance should signal the turning away from the topics of the past. Puccini was in search of the "pure myth", the essence of what he had previously told in psychological-realistic detail at the theatre. He had in mind a fairytale-like fantastic drama and had found it when Simoni drew his attention to the Turandot story in the spring of 1920, in the form of the fairytale comedy Carlo Gozzi (1762). Driven by nervous impatience he accompanied - meticulously as always - the conception and execution of the libretto.

Info: Deutsche Oper Berlin
On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.
