Richard Strauss - musical drama in one lift - music and libretto by Richard Strauss!
When "Salomé" by Oscar Wilde first appeared on stage in Paris in 1896, the author served a prison sentence in London for "gross immorality". In Great Britain and also in the German-speaking countries only private performances of the scandalous play were possible. Such one Richard Strauss visited in 1902 in Max Reinhardt's "Kleinem Theater" in Berlin.
One year later he decided to make Wildes Text the basis of an opera nude. The premiere of SALOME 1905 in Dresden was a resounding success for the composer. In it he challenges the genre: an intoxicating and love-drenched music contrasts the most horrible, monstrous event imaginable.

Info: Deutsche Oper Berlin
On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.
