Melodramma by Vincenzo Bellini - Libretto by Felice Romani!
Amina, a destitute orphan, and Elvino, the richest farmer in the village, want to get married. But when Amina is found at night in the room of Count Rodolfo, who had returned after a long absence, the deceptive idyll in the Swiss Alps breaks up: Elvino breaks up the engagement and returns to his ex-lover Lisa. Only when Amina appears at dizzying height like a ghost of the village community does her innocence become apparent: sleepwalking she was not the master of her senses - awakened from the trance, she finds herself as the bride of Elvino.
Bellini and his librettist Romani chose a lyrical-romantic subject for their fifth collaboration and set out on the terrain of the semi-seria, the semi-serious opera with a happy ending. In their two large sleepwalking scenes, the music traces the young woman, torn between love, jealousy and supposed guilt. These exceptional moments inspired the composer to some of his most touching "melodie lunghe, lunghe, lunghe" (Verdi).

Info: Deutsche Oper Berlin
On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.
