Leos Janácek - Opera in three acts - Libretto by Leos Janácek after the comedy by Karel Capek!
In his penultimate opera, Leos Janácek dedicated himself to the human longing for immortality: the famous singer Emilia Marty is magically appealing and repulsively cold at the same time, giving a new twist to an inheritance dispute that has been smouldering for a century with unheard-of factual knowledge. She uses her irresistible erotic attraction with cold precision, since her interest is not in finding the truth in the process, but in her own goal: she must reach the writing of an old recipe. A human experiment conducted on her over 300 years ago gave her an unnaturally long life - now she needs the potion again.
"I make her warmer so people will feel sorry for her. The composer wrote about his main character and shifted the focus from the comedic-dialectic confrontation with the pros and cons of an artificially prolonged life, which characterizes Karel Capek's literary model, to the personal, touching lament about the eternal emptiness and constant repetition of the same in the life of such a singular being.

Info: Deutsche Oper Berlin
On November 7, 1912, the Deutsches Opernhaus was inaugurated with FIDELIO and, in the following decades, served as a stage especially for Puccini's and Wagner's works. The house has remained faithful to the democratic ideal of a citizen opera after its destruction in World War II: Fritz Bornemann's new building, opened in 1961, is intended as a framework for a modern music theatre, which can be experienced from all seats as a total work of art.
