Renaissance-Theater Berlin, Knesebeckstraße 100, 10623 Berlin, Charlottenburg

Tickets 2for1 When: Oct. 09 - 12, 2025

by Samuel D. Hunter

After the award-winning film The Whale by Darren Aronofsky, based on the play by Samuel D. Hunter, the Renaissance Theater is now bringing the German-language premiere to the stage. The Whale tells the moving story of Charlie, a reclusive, severely overweight man who lives stranded in North Idaho after a personal tragedy. A former university professor, now an online English teacher, he grapples with guilt, longing and the hope of reconciliation. He only has contact with his nurse Liz, the young Mormon Thomas and, more recently, his ex-wife and his daughter Ellie.

Hunter's play convinces with its emotional power and radical humanity. Central motifs such as Melville's "Moby Dick"interweave with Charlie's broken relationships. Intense dialogues full of tenderness, anger and humor reveal Hunter's view of complex characters whose fates continue to have an impact and provide food for thought for a long time to come.

The theater is getting on in years, the air in the hall is very warm and exhausting to endure. Due Get2card was accepted without any problems and a reservation was possible by telephone. Sven Ratzke is a wonderful artist and had the audience on the edge of their seats.

We were in :4 Star Hours
It was an entertaining evening with Rufus Beck in the leading role.1 1/2 hours without a break. After initial hesitation, but a friendly courtesy when it comes to issuing cards. Unfortunately the backrests of the chairs in this old theatre are very low and the distance between the rows of seats is very small, an obstacle for tall people. Afterwards you could speak to the actors, which unfortunately not many
People did.

Leute taten.

In any case a beautiful theatre worth seeing! Booking via the bonus program and card collection were completely unproblematic. I'd love to do it again!
