TD Berlin: A BOMB TICKS IN THE HEART

With poetic power and laconic wit, this furious solo tells of flight and war, of growing up in exile and of a liberating departure into life.

In her new interpretation, director Judith Rosmair skillfully interweaves Wajdi Mouawad's play text with the authentic escape story of the young actor Mouataz Alshaltouh and his sometimes grotesque experiences in his new European homeland.

His biography is at times eerily similar to that of the fictional protagonist: Wahab receives a phone call in the middle of a winter's night: his mother is dying. On the way to the hospital, Wahab struggles with his thoughts and memories - of his mother, his family, his distant homeland and the war he had to experience there as a child. Grief and trauma, pain and anger overlap inside him because of the violence he suffered.

This production full of humor, emotional power and touching video images is also about overcoming the experience through art. Flight, migration, wars - they leave their mark on people, as does growing up. Pain and love, anger and tenderness rarely wrestle with each other more openly than in this furious monologue.
