TD Berlin: ACTING. LOST HIGHWAY

Based on the screenplay "Lost Highway" by David Lynch and Barry Gifford, this theater performance focuses on two people who struggle to leave the familiar paths of their actions.

Renée and Fred Madison have a relationship full of secrets and longings; there is suspicion of an affair. They are leaked a video in which they can be seen sleeping themselves. At a party, Fred meets a stranger who claims to know him and to have been invited to his house. A maelstrom of fear and panic ensues. Finally, another video shows a murder: Fred's murder of Renée.

This is how David Lynch tells the story of Renée and Fred in 1997. But something seems different this time. If everyday reality is one of many possibilities, where are the cracks in it? Where does the potential to suddenly do things differently appear? This scenic composition approaches these questions and the ambiguity of playing in a fiction and acting in life with playback dialogues, movement-based dream scenes and choreographies in an experimental interplay of bodies and voices.

This graduate production by Tobias Klett at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts was developed in collaboration with the dancers Sylvana Seddig and Juan Corres Benito and the sound designer Hyewon Suk.
